ARLINGTON, Va. / June 20, 2014 – Hometown hero Lannon Quintana earned the title of National Champion Friday, June 20, with a winning time of 1 minute, 17.485 seconds at the National Apartment Association’s (NAA) 2014 Maintenance Mania® competition. Quintana, a member of the Apartment Association of Metro Denver and employee of Holland Partner Group, was among 20 finalists who qualified from a pool of thousands nationwide to battle in Denver for this year’s title.
Second and third place titles were awarded to Justin Heenan (1 minute, 19.453 seconds), Key Management, of the Apartment Association of Greater Wichita; and Jorge Blanco Martinez (1 minute, 23.675 seconds), Kettler Management, of the Apartment and Office Building Association of Metropolitan Washington, respectively.
“Maintenance professionals are essential to the success and viability of the multifamily housing industry,” said NAA President & CEO Doug Culkin, CAE. “NAA is extremely proud to be able to shine a light on such an outstanding group of individuals through the Maintenance Mania® program.”
The eighth annual competition, offered by NAA and presenting sponsor HD Supply Facilities Maintenance, was held during the 2014 NAA Education Conference & Exposition. It consisted of eight maintenance-focused challenges that tested competitors’ skills and knowledge of the industry as they competed for the national title and $7,000 in grand prizes courtesy of the presenting and national sponsors. The total prize package for winners and spectators totaled more than $20,000.
Racing against the clock, these highly skilled maintenance professionals competed to see who was fastest at the Bradford White water heater installation, CFG faucet installation, Fluidmaster duo flush toilet conversion, Frigidaire icemaker installation, Kidde fire and carbon monoxide safety installation, Kwikset key control deadbolt test and Seasons ceiling fan installation. The finale of the event featured a racecar competition, sponsored by Motorola and Niagara Conservation, where competitors launched hand-built model cars— each using at least three maintenance products—down a pinewood derby-style track.
“As the presenting sponsor, we are thrilled with how this program has grown over the past eight years, and proud of how it connects maintenance professionals and local apartment associations within the apartment industry,” said Anesa Chaibi, President & CEO of HD Supply Facilities Maintenance.
This year’s national championship in Denver attracted nearly 1,000 spectators into the Maintenance Mania arena. The First Coast Apartment Association won the Spirit Award.
The 2015 national championship will take place next June in Las Vegas.
